Lao Huang: The chip shortage still takes years to solve. The gamers still need to wait.
In a joint media visit to the COMPUTEX 2021 Taipei Computer Show, Nvidia ceo John Wong once again commented on the shortage of chips and graphics cards.
Huang Renxun said that not only the game market, including data centers, artificial intelligence, self-driving vehicles, medical care and other industries that need computer computing is developing rapidly, so in the case of rising demand, we must rely on increasing production capacity to effectively solve the shortage of chips, but this may take several years. Nvidia will continue to strengthen and expand its supply chain capacity to meet user needs.
For the cryptocurrency surge in the past six months, Huang did not encourage mining, but the NFT (Non-Fungible Token, nonhomogenized token) trend is indeed bullish. So Nvidia launched a CMP mining card to meet demand, while pushing the lhr (litehashrate) geforce gpu to prevent miners from grabbing the market demand of gamers.
In short, the LHR (Lite Hash Rate) GeForce GPU may still take some time to ferment in the market, and gamers are likely to buy their beloved graphics cards after miners turn demand to CMP cards and global chip capacity.
